During the month of May, Chilean bottled wine exports experienced a rebound, in volume and value of shipments, marking their best performance so far in 2019.
According to figures provided by Chilean exporters, in May 2019 there was a 10.7% increase in export volume, with 5.1 million boxes. As for the value, it reached US $ 145.8 million, which represents an increase of 10.4%.
Exports from January to May are at a similar level to the same period of 2018, with 21.5 million boxes sent abroad.
The figures are good, but we must be cautious, the exporters point out, because these data do not mean that there will be similar growth in the coming months.
Chilean wine market
The main export markets until May were China, the United States, South Korea and Canada. In the case of China, shipments in the category increased significantly over US $ 40 per box, reaching 10.9 million dollars, which implies an increase of 65.4% in value compared to May 2018 .
A new important actor for Chilean wines is Mexico, since Chile looks with particular attention to the performance of this market, where the value of wine shipments reached US $ 4.5 million, 73.6% more than in the same month of 2018.
