Exports of Chilean wine achieve increase in volume that was not seen since 2010. In amount, meanwhile, they reached their highest value in six years. Shipments of bottled Chilean wine registered a positive performance during 2017, reaching exports of 57.2 million boxes of nine liters. This translated into sales of US $ 1,604.5 million.

According to the data of the exporters, there was an increase of 5.8% in volume and 6.4% in value, which is equivalent to the higher growth rates since 2010 and 2011, respectively.
If the exports of bottled wines are added with those of sparkling and bulks, the total shipments of these products in 2017 reached 3.7% in volume, up to 869.7 million liters, and 8.8% in value, achieving sales for US $ 1,850.3 million.
2017 was the first year of Chile’s 2025 Strategy and with this, the proposed year-on-year growth targets of 3% and 5%, respectively, were exceeded. With these numbers, Chile is consolidated as the number one producer of premium, sustainable and diverse wines of the new world, promoting the denomination of origin and contributing to the development of the sector.
In bottled wines, the price segments that grew the most last year were the products whose value per box exceeds US $ 60 FOB.
China, with strong growth, remained for the second year as the largest importer of local wine. The Asian giant exported 8.2 million boxes and achieved a commercialization of US $ 254 million. Behind China was the USA, where shipments were registered by 6.1 million boxes for US $ 168 million. This country presented an annual fall of 5.2% in quantity and 8.1% in money. Japan and Brazil positioned themselves further behind, both with double-digit increases in marketing. Japan sold US $ 159 million, while Brazil sold US $ 146 million.
Different case is that of the United Kingdom, which fell from third place in importance in 2016 to fifth place last year, ratifying its downward trajectory. In that country, where there was a decrease of 9.3% in the value of shipments, sales were reached for US $ 134 million.
