Mercurynews.com /.- Rosenblum relocates: After 36 years, Rosenblum Cellars, one of the country’s original urban wineries, is moving from its Alameda location to Jack London Square. In June, Rosenblum will join Cerruti Cellars and a host of other top-notch gastronomic landmarks (Haven, Miette and Blue Bottle) on the Oakland waterfront. The new location is just three miles from Rosenblum’s current Alameda site but way more convenient to access via BART, if you ask us. The Jack London space will have a new food and wine pairing program and resemble Rosenblum’s Healdsburg wine tasting lounge and educational center, which opened last October on the main square. Stay tuned for Jack London Square opening festivities in July. Details: www.rosenblumcellars.com.

Sebastiani’s new label: England’s not the only country that knights individuals. In 2002, the Italian government bestowed knighthood on Sonoma winemaking legend Sam Sebastiani in recognition of his contributions to Italy’s winemaking heritage in the United States. Now Sebastiani, the winemaker and visionary behind Viansa Winery and Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery, has done it again with La Chertosa, a new line of wines inspired by his Old World roots.

La Chertosa is named for the 14th-century monastery in the Tuscan valley of Farneta, Italy, where Sam’s grandfather, Samuele Sebastiani, learned to make wine before immigrating to Sonoma in 1893. The small-production La Chertosa wines, including a 2012 Sonoma Valley Reserve Chardonnay and a 2012 Sonoma Valley Reserve Sangiovese, will be produced primarily from grapes grown in red Tuscan series soils and aged moderately in new and young oak barrels.
